His Eminence Jampel Tenpai Khorlo Rinpoche was born to a father His Eminence Samtrul Rinpoche and a mother Pema Choden in 1972. A great Mahasiddha Rikhe Rinpoche popularly known as Thangtong Gyelpo Rinpoche recognized him as the reincarnation of his root guru His Eminence Jampel Sherab Yoezer. Drupthob Thangtong Rinpoche named him Jampel Tenpai Khorlo and advised to be enthroned officially as soon as possible. Accordingly, He was enthroned officially at his father’s monastery at Beogana, Thimphu on one of the auspicious days.

As a child, His Eminence was trained by his father starting from basic reading and writing, traditional rituals and spiritual practices. At the age of twelve, he pleased his father by taking a role of ritual master for Chod Tshok Rinchen Threngwa “cutting-off practice Ratnamala” and Karling Zhitho “Karma Lingpa’s ritual of peaceful and wrathful deities”.

After he grew up, He studied under renowned scholar the then 69th Chief Abbot of Bhutan, Geshe Gedun Rinchen and studied Buddhist Philosophical texts at Gangteng Institute of Higher Buddhist Studies at Wangdi, Bhutan.

He then travelled to Nyingma Buddhist College in South India for further studies under His Holiness the late Penor Rinpoche. In addition to studying philosophical texts, He also travelled from place to place seeking Tantras teachings, empowerments and oral transmissions from many great masters such as His Holiness the Dalai Lama, His Holiness the late Penor Rinpoche, His Holiness Dodrupchen Rinpoche, His Holiness the late Taklung Tsetrul Rinpoche, His Holiness the late Khenchen Jigme Phuntshok Rinpoche, the great Late Nyoshul Khen Rinpoche, His Holiness the late Domang Yangthang Rinpoche, His Holiness the 70th Je Khenpo Chief Abbot of Bhutan, Trulku Jigme Choeda.

From his father, he received the teachings on Phowa, Chod, Karling Zhithro and Konchok Chidue “Union of the Three Jewels” in which fields he is more popular. Shortly, before his father passed away, his father told monks and retreatants that “in near future, you all can receive the empowerments, oral transmissions and teachings from my son, Trulku”, thus Rinpoche guides monks, yogis and retreatants.

After his father passed away, he moved to Genekha, South Thimphu, where he built monastery and established school for monks, yogis and retreatants. He has about 120 monks including retreatants. His Eminence is the President of Choekhor Foundation which he founded in 2015 under the approval of the Commission of Religious Organization of Bhutan. His Eminence is the main lecturer in his school beside few other teachers. He also teaches rituals and other Dharma activities to monks, yogis and retreatants. He conducts ritual ceremony on every auspicious days of the month for the benefactors and particularly Chod practice on 25th of month with committee members of Choekhor Foundation.
